About
ISO 9000 and ISO 9001
ISO 9000 standards for quality
systems are issued by the International Organization for Standardization
(ISO) in Switzerland. The standards are developed with international participation
of more than 50 countries.
The family of ISO 9000 standards includes ISO
9001 which is the quality management system standard used by manufacturing and
service organizations. The latest revision of ISO 9000 is ISO 9000:2005,
and the latest revision of ISO 9001 is ISO 9001:2000.
Organizations
with implemented ISO 9001 quality systems can obtain certification - also
called registration - of their quality system through a third party Registrar.
The certification confirms that the organization's quality system meets
the requirements of ISO 9001. Any organization, large, medium size or small,
can implement an ISO 9001 quality system and obtain certification.
More than 600,000 organizations
worldwide are operating with an ISO 9001 quality management system. The
growing number of organizations with certified ISO 9001 quality systems
confirms the increasing popularity of ISO 9001.
In addition to the assurance
that defined quality requirements are met, the
organization with an ISO 9001quality system has usually a competitive
advantage over non certified competitors. |
