A Story about AMD

      Macular Degeneration ?

                    Age Related Macular Degeneration ?

                                            What is this ?

Going back in time to the year 1999 I had never heard about Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD), which is one of the leading eye diseases and cause of blindness. I was than in my mid fifties when I noticed that I had a vision problem with my left eye. I saw my family doctor who did send me to an eye physician.

The eye physician told me that I had a damaged area in my left eye. It was caused by Age Related Macular Degeneration and I needed a laser surgery to stop blood leaking in my eye and causing the vision problem. I got the laser surgery. The doctor gave to me a printed Amsler Grid to check my eyes periodically and in between doctor appointments. I liked the Amsler Grid. It is excellent for detecting curved lines or a blurred area that are symptoms of AMD, but I had some problem with detecting changes related to the size and location of the damaged area.

In the following years I had three more laser surgeries and I was also diagnosed with AMD in my right eye. During this time I used the printed Amsler Grid that I had received from the doctor, but as I mentioned before, it was somewhat difficult to see and monitor changes in my vision.

Prior to be diagnosed the first time with AMD it never occurred to me to look at an Amsler Grid. If years ago I had used an Amsler Grid or the new MEVISTA program, I would have detected the AMD in its early stage and with a better chance to get it under control.

In addition, with the MEAVISTA program I would have noticed changes and would have seen my eye physician immediately and would not have waited until the next scheduled doctor appointment. Now, with the MEAVISTA program it takes me only seconds to check each eye and see changes. I believe that even with a normal vision and no AMD officially diagnosed, it is recommended to take a few seconds and to check the vision periodically. The earlier AMD is detected, the better the chances to control this disease. I am using the MEAVISTA program now – somewhat late, but it still helps a lot.

I have recommend to my son to install the MEAVISTA program to his computer. Looking at the program from time to time could save his vision. What a deal!
